out showing any correlation between pre-CRT s-CEA level and pathologic tumor response [5]. Presently, few biomarkers are considered promising as CRT-predictive markers. The s-CEA level of preor post-CRT appears to be closely associated with the prognosis in LARC patients, but its predictive value for pathologic response needs to be further verified. Additionally, efficient individualized regimens must be continuously investigated for patients with poor CRT-response and/or elevated s-CEA after CRT.

Reappraisal of pretreatment carcinoembryonic antigen in patients with rectal cancer receiving preoperative chemoradiotherapy.
AIMS AND BACKGROUND The pretreatment serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level is an independent prognostic factor in colorectal cancer. We aimed to investigate the significance of CEA as a prognostic or predictive factor in rectal cancer patients receiving preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT). METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN In total, 609 patients with locally advanced (cStage II-III) mid to dista...
متن کاملClinical Significance of Serial Serum Carcinoembryonic Antigen Values for Treating Rectal Cancer with Preoperative Chemoradiotherapy
PURPOSE Preoperative chemoradiotherapy is now widely accepted to treat rectal cancer; however, the prognosis for rectal cancer patients during and after chemoradiotherapy must be determined. The aim of this study was to evaluate the serial serum carcinoembryonic antigen (s-CEA) samples in patients with rectal cancer who underwent radical surgery after concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT). METHO...
متن کاملPrognostic Significance of Serum Carcinoembryonic Antigen Normalization on Survival in Rectal Cancer Treated with Preoperative Chemoradiation
PURPOSE The purpose of this retrospective study was to identify factors predictive of survival in rectal cancer patients who received surgery with curative intent after preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT). MATERIALS AND METHODS Between July 1996 and June 2010, 104 patients underwent surgery for rectal cancer after preoperative CRT. The median dose of radiotherapy was 50.4 Gy (range, 43.2 to ...

PURPOSE To investigate whether pretreatment serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) levels are associated with pathological responses to preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in patients with rectal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS In total, 260 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (cT3-4NanyM0) who underwent preoperative CRT and radical surgery were analyzed retrospectively. CRT consis...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Relationship between Peroxisome Proliferator Receptors (PPARα, PPARγ, and PPARδ) Expression and Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) in Patients with Colorectal Cancer
Introduction: Studies have shown that an increase in carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is associated with the progression of colorectal cancer and is considered a sensitive diagnostic factor for CRC. Moreover, the role of peroxisome proliferators (PPARs) has recently been considered in colorectal cancer. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the expression level of PPARs and CEA...
